Types of Compactors

There are several different types of compactors, ranging in size, how they apply force and the type of material they are best suited for:

• Soil compactors: Soil compactors increase the density of soil, gravel or asphalt by applying force to compress the material. This increases the ground’s density, stability and load-bearing capacity.
• Vibratory compactors: Vibratory compactors utilize a vibrating plate or drum to apply downward pressure and compact the material. This enables faster, more uniform compaction.
• Tandem vibratory rollers: Tandem vibratory rollers feature two steel drums that vibrate to compact materials. They achieve a smooth, dense and level surface with granular mixtures.
• Pneumatic rollers: Pneumatic rollers operate with a set of air-filled rubber tires to compact and seal surfaces. They apply a kneading action and uniform pressure, suitable for uneven terrain.
• Landfill compactors: Landfill compactors are equipped with large, spiked steel wheels designed to spread and compress waste. They reduce the volume of trash, creating a stable and compact waste layer and prolonging the landfill’s lifespan.
